Five Reasons People Don’t Get Injectables

Seems odd to start your very first aesthetic injectables blog about why people don’t get treatments… But hear me out! People may THINK they can’t do or don’t want treatments for x, y, z reasons but unfortunately there are a lot of misconceptions and lack of education out there. So I am here to educate and elaborate.

Reason 1. They don’t think they are old enough to get treatments.

There is no time like the present to start your injectables journey. Believe it or not, wrinkles begin forming when we lose the ability to produce our normal amounts of collagen starting in our late 20s. My recommendations to all patients is starting preventative wrinkle treatments in your late 20s and onward.

Tip: Preventative treatments (like botox) aid in slowing down the formation of static wrinkles (wrinkles that exist when the muscles are is not in motion). Preventative intervention lends itself to less extensive treatments down the road.

Reason 2. They think you’ll look fake or unnatural after treatments.

Ah... this is always a big one. Unfortunately most people see one image of a botched or overdone treatment and assume that that is how they are going to look. In fact, the best injectable is undetectable! At elevate & co. our goal is to keep you who you are, just looking refreshed and elevated! See my tips below about ways to prevent unwanted results.

Tip:

1) Find an injector you trust.

  • Make sure you have a thorough consultation with an injector prior to any treatment. Ask them their credentials. Ask them their approach to injectables. Looking for a conservative, less is more approach? This typically means they build then reassess for further treatment as needed.

  • Ask to see their work. Review before and after photos to see if they align with your aesthetic goals.

  • Injectors must have the ability to say "no" to unnecessary treatments. When they do, it means they care about you and the result. I

2) Don't shop around for the cheapest person you find.

Don't get me wrong, everyone appreciates a good deal! When you have a hurt knee, you don’t shop around for the cheapest orthopedic surgeon. Of course not, you look for the best one.

But considering this is your face... it's best to do your research and appreciate the expertise and skillset you're also paying for. It is the hand and eyes behind the syringe.. not just the cost of that syringe.

3) Don't feel pressured and uninformed.

It's okay to be nervous before a treatment. Don't feel pressured to get a treatment just because you're there or you put down a deposit. Ask questions, make sure you review the consents and complications that can occur with any treatment. (PS. All of elevate & co. consultations are complimentary!!)

Reason 3. They think they can’t afford injectable treatments.

Aesthetic treatments are an investment in the health of your skin. Unfortunately there isn't a one and done solution. For best results, consistent treatments (i.e. medical grade skin care, facials and injectables) are key to achieving the long term benefits of your investment.

Same rules apply from reason 2. Find an injector you trust and don't solely price shop. Trust me. Nothing worse than spending any amount of money on a treatment that was a "deal" and then having to pay another practice to fix their work.

Tip:

1) Follow practices on social media and watch for anniversary sales, promotional priced events or model pricing.

2) Each tox on the market has their own rewards program. Earn points that convert to dollars off future treatments. At e&c. we accept all loyalty rewards programs (Aspire, Alle, Xperience, Evolus)!

3) Stop drinking that $5 daily Starbucks coffee you could make at home... and use that $1800+ amount towards your injectables!

Reason 4. They think the "toxins" are harmful to their body.

A couple things I want to address about this concern...

1) Botulinum toxinA (botox) is an FDA-approved medication since 2002. The products are safely manufactured in controlled environments.

2) No, botulinum toxinA will not give you botulism at the doses we're administering. Toxic doses are required near the 133,000 units range (directly in the blood). We are only administering an average of 50 units for the upper face into the muscle tissues. You would have to inject 2600x the standard dosing to have any toxic symptoms.

Lastly, our fillers, which is typically comprised of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Yes, these products are synthetically made but overall they have a extremely safe track record when injected properly.

Reason 5. They think injectable treatments will hurt.

Botox injectables are performed with some of the smallest needles possible. They are the same needles used on a daily basis by diabetic patients for their insulin. Treatments feel more like a pinch and injections only take a couple minutes. Depending on the treatment area with fillers, topical numbing or a block are performed to provide the most comfort.

Tip: Use a stress ball or distractor tool during your treatment session to feel the most relaxed.
